The collaborative study between Enchant Energy LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Enchant Energy Corporation, and the City of Farmington received $2.9m through the DOE grant.
DOE announces $110 for carbon capture, utilisation and storage
The San Juan Generation Station has served New Mexicans and customers throughout the west with electricity. Enchant Energy now plants to repurpose the site into both a state-of-the-art CCUS facility and wholesale power generator.
“Earning the DOE’s support for funding such a key part of this project speaks to its tremendous potential. The FEED study is a significant step forward in proving the technical and economic viability of extending the life of San Juan Generating Station” said Nate Duckett, Mayor of Farmington.
“The DOE is the leading organisation in the world in the carbon capture and storage field,” said Jason Selch, Enchant Energy CEO.
“Their expertise was acquired over the past decade and culminated in the Petra Nova CCUS project that came online in 2017 and has been successfully capturing 90% of its CO2 emissions for the past three years.”
The DOE grant provides up to $35m in federal funding for cost-shared research and development projects that will accelerate wide-scale deployment of CCUS.
