Having designed the truck’s ‘plug and play’ hydrogen storage system in partnership with Tevva engineers and alternative fuel specialists, Luxfer Gas Cylinders (Luxfer) has celebrated the launch.
The UK-based gas equipment specialist saw its engineers support electric truck manufacturer Tevva’s work to adapt its battery-electric HGV design to accommodate a hydrogen fuel cell system that tops up the battery and extends the truck’s range by 310 miles (500km).
Stating that the company was approached by Tevva back in October 2020, Jimmy Gregory, European Business Development Manager, Luxfer, revealed that Tevva had been seeking a partner that focuses on safety and innovation, and shared their vision of accessible hydrogen.

“The system – designed using three of our G-Stor H2 cylinders – was fit for purpose and could be slotted into their existing structure seamlessly.”
With the solution offering ‘the best of both worlds’, Gregory added that the project showcases just how the UK is leading the way in hydrogen technology.
The storage system supplied by Luxfer was also used to power the UK’s first hydrogen train, HydroFLEX, which was showcased during the COP26 summit which took place in June, 2021.
Considered some of the most efficient and highest capacity Type 3 alternative fuel cylinders in the world, Luxfer’s technology has proven to be highly sought after for heavy-duty trucks, refuse vehicles, buses, trains, and bulk gas transportation modules.
