Aiming to revolutionise the telemedicine and home healthcare ecosystem across Europe, Home Medicine S.r.l (Home Medicine) is driving forward digitisation of the medical market. 

The company’s Business Manager, Marco Proiette spoke to gasworld during the Medical Gases Virtual Event 2022, revealing the scope of Home Medicine’s digital health solutions. 

Telemedicine is available across a range of applications, including chronic disease management, home assistance, access to healthcare, and predictive medicine. 

“The activities of companies in the healthcare sectors are constantly evolving. We have learned from supplying oxygen to hospitals to managing distribution system and medical devices,” said Proiette. 

“We can define telemedicine as a set of technology advances tool that support health in practical implementation of the continuous multidisciplinary approach to the patient management.” 

Discussing the main advantages of telemedicine, Proiette outlined the benefits of cooperation, patient monitoring, total patient enrolment, and the ability to undertake a multidisciplinary approach. 

“A patient can be constantly monitored remotely without having to go to the hospital,” explained Proiette. 

Possibilities 

The constantly evolving nature of medical technology creates the implementation of new health care protocols. 

In telemedicine, new protocols include tele-visits. This involves a remote consultation between a patient and a doctor while telemonitoring allows the remote management of patients suffering from chronic conditions. 

“We must also bear in the mind the real strengths of these tools is that they can be used to create a new care pathway for the patients,” said Proiette. 

Chronic patients 

Chronic conditions such as diabetes, COPD, obesity and dementia will affect around 80% of chronic patients over age 65. Digital health allows the continuous monitoring of patients 

Stating that we are at the front of a ‘cultural’ revolution, Proiette added that new digital health systems no longer waits for the patient to go to the doctor. 

Concerns 

The digital nature of treatment implies that more stringent measures must be taken to manage and protect data. 

“The aspect of privacy and storage of data for patients remains critical for the digital sector,” emphasised Proiette. 

“In order to make telemedicine and digital health useable, work on all of these aspects needs to be complete.”
