After picking up the shipment from India, the vessel docked at Colombo at midnight on 22nd August 2021.
Ordered by Sri Lankan president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the shipment was arranged by the Sri Lankan Navy to supply its citizens with medical oxygen to help combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the crisis still ongoing, SLNS Shakthi is to set sail again tomorrow (24th August) for the port of Chennai for another shipment of oxygen.
The Indian Naval Ship Shakti also arrived at Colombo on the same evening carrying around 100 tonnes of oxygen.
Continued shipments of oxygen are set to go ahead to enable Sri Lanka to provide Covid-19 treatment.
