NASA’s Landsat 9 launch delayed by liquid nitrogen shortage

You are here: Home / Industry Feed / NASA’s Landsat 9 launch delayed by liquid nitrogen shortage

September 1, 2021 by realisma

The partnership is a continuation of the first Landsat mission launched in 1972 with the objective to track land use and document changes in land due to various natural and manmade influences such as climate change, urbanisation, drought and wildfire.

Scheduled to launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, due to an increased demand for medical liquid oxygen, delivery of liquid nitrogen by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and supplier Airgas has been impacted.

DLA and Airgas now intend to accelerate their production of liquid nitrogen ahead of the rescheduled launch date of September 23rd 2021.
