The industrial gas giant’s first North American PEM plant, the development will utilise existing infrastructure at the Niagara Falls facility and will be powered by renewable energy sourced from the Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Station.
Featuring Linde’s latest technology, and making use of the electricity source, hydrogen produced at the site will be truly green. Once produced, the hydrogen will be supplied to customers through existing infrastructure at the Linde Niagara Falls site.
Welcoming the development, Kevin Younis, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Deputy Commissioner at Empire State Development, said, “Linde’s production of green hydrogen generated by hydroelectric power at Niagara Falls will help the company invest in and deploy technology of the future and continue to upskill its Niagara County workforce.”
“By providing an emission-free fuel that can be used for hard-to-electrify industrial and other power needs, Linde’s project will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support the State’s climate goals, as well as fulfil the WNYREDC’s focus on innovation and sustainability in its tradeable sector of advanced manufacturing.”
Supporting the major development, Empire State Development has offered tax credits of up to $671,000 through the Excelsior Jobs Programme and also provided a Regional Council Capital fund grant of $250,000.
City of Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino, added, “Linde has called Niagara Falls its home for many years, it is a great sign of growth and innovation for our city that the company has chosen Niagara Falls for this state-of-the-art facility.”
