High school students who attending the annual Skills USA national competition, had the chance to hone their brazing skills and learn more about careers in the gases industry.
The contest included a series of testing stations to assess skills. For the brazing competition, professionals from The Harris Products Group demonstrated proper brazing techniques as well as offering safety lessons.
Students were given one hour to complete a closed-loop system of copper-to-copper and copper-to-steel connections while nitrogen purging.
Harris then tested their connections with a pressure/leak test.
The US currently faces a skills shortage, with many companies across the gases industry reporting labour shortages off the back of the Covid-19 pandemic.
