The partners will also collaborate on the use of renewable biomethane to help avoid 7,600 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year from 2025, when it aims to provide 50% of compressed natural gas from 100% renewable sources.
Foreseeing the completion of around 8,000km fuelled entirely with 100% renewable biomethane, pioneering biogas project Biogasmove will provide the biomethane available at the Dourogás gas station in Loures, Portugal. The project produces the gas from the anaerobic digestion of organic waste.
Speaking about the partnership, Joao Filipe Jesus, General Director of Dourogás GNV, subsidiary of Dourogás Group, said that the partnership marks an important step on the road to achieving the availability of 100% renewable biomethane at all its service stations by 2025.
The move to push for efficient low-carbon fuels comes after an Iberian Consortium measure named ‘ECO-GATE’, which endeavours to create sustainable mobility solution in accordance with the European energy transition objectives.
“Environmental sustainability is one of the strategic pillars of HAVI, so initiatives such as this one, which allow us to move towards the reduction of carbon emissions generated in the transport of goods, are fundamental for us,” said Luis Ferreira, General Director, HAVI Portugal.
He added, “HAVI has set itself the goal of reducing its carbon emissions by 40% by 2030.”
The use of CNG allows for the reduction of certain harmful emissions, such as carbon monoxide (by 30%), nitrogen oxides (by 35%), and CO2 (by 20%).
Dourogás claims that following this demonstration it will continue to focus on renewable gases such as biomethane and green hydrogen.
