The German specialty chemicals group will now be marketing n-butane, isobutane and propane under its Drivosol brand.
Evonik said these three products, all of which also occur naturally, can be used as environmentally friendly and energy-efficient refrigerants in various appliances.
“This gives manufacturers of refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and heat pumps a new alternative to existing products,” Evonik said.
“Against the background of the climate debate, this constitutes a valuable contribution to greater sustainability in the field of refrigeration technology.”
The new products follow Evonik’s €15m investment last year in its C4 production network in Marl, Germany.
