A key priority for FE is to reduce the cost and risk of carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) technologies to accelerate widespread deployment.
The two selected projects will join five other pre-combustion capture projects announced in July (2018) that received approximately $6.4m, and two other associated geologic storage projects announced in August (2018) that received approximately $7m.
The National Energy Technology Laboratory will manage the following two projects:
Bench-Scale testing of a high-efficiency, ultra-compact process for pre-combustion CO2 capture– The main goal of this bench-scale project is to advance the proposed membrane reactor-adsorption reactor transformational CO2 capture technology to a sufficient maturity level so industrial partners can adapt the technology for further small pilot-scale testing.

Developing CO2-EOR and Associated Storage within the Residual Oil Zone Fairways of the Powder River Basin, Wyoming– The University of Wyoming plans to establish the technical and economic viability of associated CO2 storage and oil recovery in the greenfield residual oil zones of the Powder River Basin of Wyoming and Montana.
