EIGA 2020 preview

You are here: Home / Industry Feed / EIGA 2020 preview

January 24, 2020 by realisma

Under the theme of Lessons Learned in Production and Filling Plants, this year’s Winter Seminar will explore why even in one of the safest industries accidents still happen and the lessons that can be learned from them.

EIGA tracks incident statistics and details and extracts information to share with its membership.

Dedicated working groups cover all topics of industrial and medical gases, and how to produce, store, transport and use these safely.

The two-day Winter Seminar 2020, held at the Le Plaza Hotel from Wednesday 29th to Thursday 30th January, will:

  • Address lessons learned from significant industry incidents
  • Provide insight to key safeguards in today’s design and operation
  • Cover technical, organisational and human factors
  • Share best practices around ‘lessons learned’
  • Explore the benefits and risks of new technologies to improve safety
  • Help keep corporate memory alive to prevent reoccurrence

The Seminar will be structured around plenary sessions on:

  • Severe accidents in our industry
  • Incidents related to carbon dioxide, oxygen and cold embrittlement
  • Fires and perlite release
  • More incidents with cylinders, forklifts and electrical stations
  • Good practices
  • Initiatives to go further
  • Future challenges and opportunities

Training course

Prior to the Seminar, a training course on Root Cause Analysis will be held on Tuesday 28th January.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is a systematic process that digs into the details of an event to get to its source(s) or root cause(s). The goal is to understand how and why this event happened and how to prevent it.

The final purpose of RCA is to identify actions to prevent reoccurrence of similar events.

The EIGA RCA Training Course will address establishing an investigation team, capturing evidence, establishing facts, analysing the event, developing actions and communicating the results of the investigation.

The RCA Training Course will consist of the following sessions:

  • Theoretical introduction in plenary session: The trainers will share experience in investigation techniques, causal tree methodology, insight on human factors and how to develop robust action plans.
  • Break-out sessions in smaller groups: The participants will practise their skills on the development of causal trees through case studies.
  • Theoretical conclusion in plenary session.
