E.DIS and GASAG cooperate on P2G project

You are here: Home / Industry Feed / E.DIS and GASAG cooperate on P2G project

January 31, 2019 by realisma

Hydrogen is generated by regenerative electricity through electrolysis in P2G and this “green hydrogen” can be fed into the existing gas network, making use its huge storage capacity.

Elsewhere, hydrogen can be extracted as an admixture to natural gas and used to generate heat and electricity. This will contribute to decarbonisation – i.e. CO2 reduction – in the heating sector.

Green hydrogen can also be used in the transport sector to reduce emissions in fuel cell-powered cars, buses, commercial vehicles, rail vehicles and even ships.

As a so-called “sector coupling technology”, P2G thus makes a significant contribution to the successful energy system transformation in Germany.

E.DIS and GASAG are now entering into the development of the P2G project at the Ketzin site in Havelland, Brandenburg. The companies are supported in this by EMB Energie Mark Brandenburg, a company of the GASAG Group.

Concrete objectives in this first phase of cooperation are the joint preparation of the planning as well as the obtaining of the permit for the construction and operation of such a plant.

“The location is predestined for such a project because, in addition to the neighbouring Nauener Platte wind generation area with around 300 wind power plants, the electricity and gas infrastructure on the pipeline side is also available on site,” the partners explained.

“At the site, E.DIS Netz operates the low and medium voltage networks as well as a 110 kV transformer station as a connection point to the high-voltage network. NBB Netzgesellschaft Berlin-Brandenburg, a GASAG Group company, operates the local and regional gas networks with a transfer point to the Ontras high-pressure network.”

“In addition, BMV Energie, in which E.DIS has a stake alongside various municipal partners, operates a biogas plant with regenerative power generation and biomethane processing. This plant has recently been extended by a PV plant.”

The objective of E.DIS is the establishment of an “energy spiral laboratory” at the Ketzin site, in which models of the intelligent combination of regenerative energy generation, energy conversion (Power-to-X), energy storage and energy transport are further developed and tested together with partners from science and research.
