Drax will showcase its bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) negative emissions technology, for which its aims to source 80% of construction materials and services from within the UK.
The event comes ahead of UN climate conference COP26, to be held in Glasgow between 31st October and 12th November 2021.
In addition to contributing to the UK’s net zero-by-2050 targets by capturing and storing carbon emissions, Drax’s BECCS technologies could see the creation of thousands of jobs in Northern England.
Calling it a ‘once in a generation opportunity’, Will Gardiner, CEO, Drax Group, emphasised the need to develop green technologies to tackle the ongoing climate crisis.
“By leading on the development and introduction of bioenergy with BECCS, the UK can kickstart a new global industry, delivering tens of thousands of jobs and supporting a new green economy,” he added.
The event will be hosted by the Prime Minister and intends to demonstrate the government’s plan to deliver on its Ten-Point-Plan.
