SIAD said the project will bring environmental, safety and cost benefits to all parties involved with tangible positive effects on the environment.
SIAD Engineer Gianluca Ravasio explained, “We started working outside of the Corteva production plant going from West to East, respecting the area of Fornovo S.G. where there are archaeological sites with tombs and other important artefacts and finds from the Roman era.”
“In late 2018, the new supply line to the west outer wall of the production plant was completed and in December, the works for the final connection with the supply lines to the production plants were also completed.”
At the same time, Corteva completed all the works required for connecting the Mozzanica production plant to the gas pipeline, in coordination with the logistics activities of the production department.
The new section, which is part of a SIAD project to extend a nitrogen gas pipeline covering a total length of approximately 34km, of which about 14km are the result of the recent construction of the section from Castel Rozzone to Fornovo San Giovanni, will also help further reduce the environmental impact of nitrogen production, transport and distribution activities.
Prior to the construction of this gas pipeline, gas was supplied overland via tanker with liquid nitrogen, three deliveries per week. This new project has made it possible to drastically reduce road transport by limiting the transport of liquids to emergency situations only: two maintenance operations a year are sufficient to ensure safe storage and a constant supply of nitrogen gas 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
Francesco Vacca, Corteva’s Factory Manager in Mozzanica, concluded, “We are proud of this project and confident of the environmental impact that we expect it to have once implemented, and this is thanks to our collaboration with an excellent partner such as SIAD.”
“As far as tangible results are concerned, we expect the supply to be more reliable and safer, as well as a lower electricity demand for nitrogen production and lower fuel consumption for transport.”
“These are all factors that lead to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by more than 130 tonnes per year, as well as nitrogen oxides, noise and dust.”
