Working with partners Monohakobi Technology Institute (MTI) and Finnish maritime consulting firm Elomatic Oy, NYK will work on a design for the project between September 2021 and January 2022. This process will aim to identify and explore challenges that may arise during actual design and construction of the ARLFV.
The design announcement comes after NYK and MTI promoted the upgrading of its fleet by using the low-carbon marine fuel, liquefied natural gas (LNG). NYK aims to launch zero-emission ships that utilise ammonia or hydrogen as part of its Project for Safe Use of Ammonia as Marine Fuel.
In January 2022 the partners plan to release a video with accompanying 3D models of the ARLFV.
