The US-based company on Monday (9th May) announced the clean transportation effort that will see the deployment of Hyzon’s first 200kW truck and the Air Liquide Group’s first heavy-duty fuel cell truck hit the road.
Both of the zero-emission vehicles have been upcycled from existing diesel trucks and feature a Hyzon fuel cell system, electric drivetrain and lightweight hydrogen storage design.
As well as Hyzon’s first 200kW truck, Airgas will also trial a 100kW fuel cell truck. Trials of the vehicles will begin this fall.
Brian Jones, Director of Risk Management and Corporate Responsibility at Airgas, said, “We are proud to be one of the first to pilot heavy duty hydrogen fuel cell trucks as we look to continuously lower carbon emissions and increase our use of clean fuel alternative vehicles in our fleet on the Air Liquide path to carbon neutrality by 2050.”
Cory Shumaker, Head of Business Development for the Americas at Hyzon, added, “Hyzon is leading the transition to zero emissions by providing hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles with leading fuel cell technology.”
“Hyzon vehicles are built to suit demanding applications, including ultra-heavy freight, construction, refuse collection, perishable deliveries, and public transit. It’s all done without challenging the already strained electricity grids – in the US and around the world.”
