Today’s interview is with Cryospain. Nestled just south of Spain’s capital Madrid, the designer, manufacturer, installer and maintainer of custom-built cryogenic systems has been quietly servicing the world’s major gas companies for the past 17 years.
Following a relaunch in 2002, the company has been working to build its international presence by securing key projects in crucial regions.
Whilst the company may be relatively new to the industrial gas industry, it holds experience in the cryogenics industry that dates back to the 1980s.
At the beginning, Cryospain’s activities were focused on the distribution and maintenance of cryogenic pumps and the company also handled some projects related to flat-bottom tanks in the local market, Pierre Meurgey, Sales and Marketing Director tells gasworld.
Cryospain’s next activity was the maintenance of pressure tanks, road tankers and dewars.
After this, it continued to grow step-by-step. Today, it has three core business lines; the supply of equipment as a distributor, maintenance activity and the supply and installation of turnkey projects like vacuum piping or flat-bottom tanks.
Gasworld (GW): Pierre, could you tell us about three interesting projects that Cryospain has been involved in this year?
Pierre Meurgey (PM):
- Liquid nitrogen storage tank in Chandler, Arizona; Singapore; and Odisha, India
- Liquid helium and liquid hydrogen vacuum insulated systems for SABRE TF1 project in Aylesbury, UK
- LNG injection system for a prototype train powered by LNG in Spain
GW: What are the big trends from 2019?
PM:
- Marine business for LNG
- ASUs in Europe are back
- Liquid helium and cryocoolers
GW: How is Cryospain responding to these?
PM: Cryospain develops customised solutions for each project and we are a very flexible company thanks to our medium size and young team with start-up spirit.
GW: What’s the next big project Cryospain is working on?
PM: Cryospain is developing several technologies to attend the future liquid hydrogen market coming in the next few years.
GW: What do you think will be a hot topic for Cryospain in 2020?
PM: LNG as a marine fuel is definitely going to be a hot topic for 2020.
GW: Finally, if you had one thing on your bucket list for the gases industry, what would it be and why?
PM: Be involved in the construction of a liquid hydrogen liquefier plant in Europe.
The 2019 in Review Series continues tomorrow with Claudio Mascialino, Shareholder & OEM Division Manager at HVM.
