Feedstock will incorporate manure and other residual products from agriculture and food production and – with an estimated capacity of 130 GWh (gigawatt hours) – the facility will reduce annual carbon dioxide (CO2) production by around 53,000 tonnes.
Funding for the planet – which will also produce 200,000 tonnes of biofertilizer – will be provided by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency’s programme Klimatklivet.
To be built on municipal industrial land east of Skånes Fagerhult, the project is now undergoing preparations association with investment decision, e.g., environmental permit.
“The plant will produce a large amount of Bio-LNG, which is necessary for the green transition, but will also be an important part of the development of the region’s agriculture,” said Michael Wallis Olausson, Director for Group Growth, Scandinavian Biogas Group.
Providing an investment decision is made before the end of 2023, production at the facility is expected to begin in mid-2025.
“The biogas plant is very important as a step to reach sustainable farming, and at the same time produce a green fuel,” added Christian Larsson, Mayor of Örkelljunga.
