2021 has seen the company introduce various new products as well as improving its existing range. With a keen eye on sustainability and ensuring its technology is suited for the energy transition, PST has also focused on making its products ‘hydrogen ready’.
Peter Kubietz, Marketing Director at PST spoke to gasworld, giving exclusive insight into the company’s success throughout the year and its ambitions for 2022.
gasworld (GW): Could you please tell us more about PST and its role in the global industrial gases sector?
Peter Kubietz (PK): Process Sensing Technologies is a new name that integrates known gas measurement brands who together provide the industrial gas sector with analysers and sensors for measurements of oxygen, trace moisture or impurities. Known gas industry champions like Michell Instruments, Analytical Industries Inc, SST Sensing, Ntron Gas Measurement and LDetek are now united in one platform.
Our products are employed in measurements of impurities, such as traces of humidity or oxygen. Controlling these directly improves the profitability of our customers and helps them to stay compliant with sometimes stringent industry regulations. Because we own and manufacture the sensing technologies used in our products, we enjoy a strong leadership position and pass on the benefits of our innovation to our customers in the industrial gases sector.
GW: What’s been the most exciting application or growth driver for the company this year?
PK: We have seen significant growth in oxygen gas generation where we consider ourselves market leaders but also in additive manufacturing where protective atmospheres are critical to efficient manufacturing of quality products.
GW: What are three highlights for the company in 2021?
PK: We have introduced exciting new products to the industrial gas market that will help the industry and their clients e.g. in semiconductor or medical gases with improving yields or in their transition to renewable energy sources.
Our new ultra-low humidity industrial hygrometer the Michell S8000-100 with a range of ‑100°C dp or 15ppb without extra cooling in a standard 19” case.
Our HyDetek Integrated Gas Chromatography System for impurities in UHP hydrogen that is helping green hydrogen companies meet the regulations for hydrogen purity.
The 3rd generation of our successful LDetek MultiDetek 3 integrating two GCs into one compact package with dual stream analysis capability and integrated online advanced quartz crystal microbalance trace moisture measurement and oxygen analysis.
GW: Is there anything you’re looking forward to in the industrial gas sector for 2022?
PK: With above three and many more solutions for industrial gas clients we are looking forward to the boom in the use of Hydrogen from renewable sources and further growth of the trends to on-site gas generation capabilities. We are very positive about 2022 as we strongly believe into our own technological and commercial capabilities with a global network of own service and sales offices.
We are also expecting to participate and benefit from the new low-carbon trends but also from more decentralised industrial gas supply with more N2 or O2 gas generators being installed closer to the point of use. Covid 19 exposed some problems in selected regions with insufficient medical oxygen supply and we have been helping customers solving these with our cost effective portfolio of compact oxygen transmitters.
GW: Given the strengthened focus on renewable energy following COP26, is PST following suit and developing low-carbon solutions?
PK: PST is well positioned here and we are determined to continue innovating to help the industrial gas marketplace in their efforts to become more climate-friendly. Our analytical products that have been widely used in trace moisture detection in natural gas processing and transmission are all “hydrogen ready” for the future use of natural gas pipelines to transport hydrogen. Our hydrogen purity analysers such as the XTC601 have been the tools of choice for many renewable industry pioneers from the very start. And as mentioned above, the recently launched HyDetek GC System is helping leading electrolyser companies meeting the regulations.
GW: In the spirit of the time of year and theme of the series, if you could make one Christmas wish for the industrial gases and gas sensing sector, what would it be and why?
PK: We wish for the industrial gas markets to continue its strong growth in 2022 while accelerating the decarbonisation and digitalisation of the industry. Why? We all have a responsibility for this planet and want our children to live in a better world. All together we can help with achieving the targets of COP26. Companies in the gas sensing sector (like Process Sensing Technologies) have always been at the forefront with the analytical and measurement solutions helping the industry to cut emissions, reduce its climate footprint, save energy and generally becoming “greener”. We do have the technologies to help the industry achieve the agreed targets faster.
